Making That Mistake

Once, there was this traveler who set out on a journey to search for something he desired. His teacher said, “You mustn’t lose your way, because if you made one wrong turn, you would never find what you were searching for.”

But unfortunately, he got lost.

The traveler was disappointed. He hung his head in dismay, walking with his head staring at the floor all the time, dissatisfied.

But when he raised up his head again, what he saw before him was a world even more magnificent than the one the traveler was searching for.

Speaking of making mistake, there was this time I went to sushi groove for lunch. I ordered a BLACK PEPPER ICE CREAM for dessert, but I had no idea if the waiter heard the wrong thing or what, he gave me a SESAME ICE CREAM instead. I was a bit annoyed, I tried to call him back but he just walked off like that. So, I decided to just eat that SESAME ICE CREAM.

And guess what? I fell in love with it and now I keep craving for more and more and more and more and more sesame ice cream!!

Most of us are afraid to make mistakes, because we fear regrets; we fear that we’d never be able to start all over again.

But have we all forgotten? There are a lot of great discoveries and great inventions in the world, are mistakenly found??

If you don’t make mistakes, there will be a lot of great things you will never discover.

And I am so happy that the waiter made that mistake!

I have changed right? Oh, the other day I met one of my year 2006 classmates in Redbox. I practically stood beside her. She didn’t respond or anything. But when I called out her name, she was very shocked! She said she couldn’t recognize me at all!!!

I guess I have changed into better? Right? Right? Right? Right?

I used to look like this! OMG! I looked like a nerd!!

Oh my gosh! I cannot stop laughing!

Now tell me that I have become prettier to make me laugh even more!

When Good Enough, Isn’t Enough

When I was in form 5, my class had numerous really good students, whose kiasu smart personalities make them the top of the “world”. No matter what they do, even if they never give in their best, even if it is mere luck that they manage solve these or those, people always give the best comments to them, something more manglish like “You’re damn geng!” “Damn smart lah!” or more formal comments like “you’re so brilliant” “You’re so smart” “You have indeed proven your intelligence” or………………………whatever!

Being someone who only flips through the books,(and I repeat-ONLY FLIP!) and only tries to understand the hundred equations in the text books at the very last minute, I didn’t score as high as them, and still don’t now, I think. So I am considered a super duper lousy but still manageable; somewhere between smart and stupid but more incline to the not-so-good student. HO HO…

The thing I realize is, when you’re that kind of student, no matter how good or how perfect you have done something, you will never receive comments like those super duper kiasu smart top students, UNLESS you are super lucky. Or else, the comments you will most probably get are … “Oh, it’s good enough.” “It’s good la.” “That’s good enough.” “That level is adequate.”

So bias right?

In my context, I am talking about students who have done very well in their exams. So, supposedly a guy’s english is better than this XX top student from don’t-know-what school, but this XX has scored a very good result overall, and this guy only got to score a HD for english. People wouldn’t go to him to tell you that, “Woah! Your english is good!” DEFINITELY WON’T!! But this XX student would be labeled “smart” “clever” “brilliant” and whatsoever…

I am not jealous, in case you are wondering. The thing is, even though someone might not score as good as XX, doesn’t mean he is less smarter, less brilliant, or doesn’t deserve praises from anyone else. Has anyone seen him working hard? Has anyone see how much effort he has put in just to score a few marks better? Maybe he is not gifted with that kind of intelligence like someone else has, but doesn’t his hard work and his effort deserve our attention as well? Just by telling him “It’s good.” “That’s good” have definitely undermine what he has gone through.

I believe he deserves as much encouragement and praises as the smart asses.

You see, I seriously believe everyone deserves to be praised in some ways. Because out of 99% of imperfections in everyone of us, there must be 1% of perfection. That ONE percent is enough to make us better people, as long as we know how to utilize that 1%. And that 1% can make us become more successful than anyone else, as long as we find out what our 1% are.

Just because you don’t score well in your exams, doesn’t mean you are doomed. And that also doesn’t mean that you don’t deserve as many praises or encouragement like the others who have become kiasu top student in everyone’s eyes.

Walk Of Secrets

Who doesn’t know about Post Secret? A community where people send in their deepest… Okay, maybe just one of their deepest secrets anonymously. I am considerably a loyal reader of that blog, reading thousands of someone else secrets.

Seeing all those secrets, I can’t help to think that everyone of us is very mysterious, even your own parents, your closest siblings, your dearest friends. One can never understand another, whether the two of you are tied together with love, friendship, kinship or whatsoever.

It’s like having a friend whom you thought were gentle and nice, the one whom you could never imagine him doing naughty things even just flirting with another girl. But you would never know, you would never know how many times he had slept with other women, or maybe even pointed a gun at someone else. You would never know.

And then your parents, you would never really know what kind of life they have gone through before you were born. Were they as smart as they’ve said it? What did they do when they were teenagers? Maybe your dad tried drugs when he was 15? Maybe your mom had her first sex when she was only 13? (I’m just giving examples.) You would never know really, not unless they tell you.

Maybe your good friend is telling you how much she cherishes this friendship, always laughing and smiling in front of you. Who knows deep inside you she actually she hates the way you laugh. Maybe she hates the way you call her name or whatsoever. You would never know.

Most secrets are about bad and shameful things people have done in their lives that bring harm to someone or something else. Or things that they have regretted doing but never have the courage to reveal their mistakes.

The word “secret” is defined as something kept hidden from others or only known to oneself. Whether they are secret thoughts; secret dreams; secret actions; secret pasts; secret words; secret personalities; or secret lovers. Everyone has at least one secret in their lives that nobody knows about it.

If one day, you were given the chance to find out everyone’s secrets, ask yourself, do you have the courage to face the truths?

Secret is purposely kept hidden for reasons.

There are too many secrets which are better left unknown.

Aria

Being a restless person, I have never thought I would fall in love with this anime.

ARIA-The Animation

This anime doesn’t have a specific storyline. Each chapter is a whole new story. This anime is non violent, and has a very slow storyline compared with a lot of other shounen animes(duh). To some people who are used to watching and reading shounen mangas or animes, they might not be used to Aria, or even hate it.

As a shounen manga lover, I am actually quite shocked to find myself falling in love with this anime. I would really really really say that this is the best shoujo anime ever created. This is an outstanding series of gorgeous illustration and superb calming stories. Each episodes never fails to make my heart feels warmer. And each story never fails to make me laugh and smile or be inspired in the end.

The stories are meaningful. They focus on those tiny little things we do in life which we all really don’t appreciate or see the significance, that make our lives better. Watching this series, it makes me feel that the world is wonderful. It makes me look towards life in a happier manner.

On top of that, I have never heard any animes’ soundtracks better than Aria. The intro theme is a soothing song with deep meaning and the ending theme has such a nice tunes and together with the happy ending of the story, they can practically draw rainbows and rainbows in your world. Then there are heart-melting instrumental pieces(mostly piano) between the anime that made me drove all the way to shopping malls just to get all Aria’s OST Collection. I am serious, it is that good!

I am not a shoujo manga/anime lover, but Aria has definitely found its way into my heart.

I would recommend this anime to anyone who wants to watch a gorgeously and beautifully light anime, or anyone who wants to be moved by the softness, beauty, love and peace. I hope Aria will make you smile and forget all your worries, like how it does to me.
